“Raw and Soulful Engagement Portraits in Queenstown New Zealand”

You know the feeling when you meet or talk to certain people for the first time and you just know that they’re your kind of people? That’s the vibe I got from Amy and Kevin! I always believe that one of the most important things in doing my job is the chemistry between me and my couples. Somehow we could tell how comfortable and strong the bond between the photographer and the couples from the captured moments or expressions in the photographs.

This destination pre-wedding shoot to New Zealand with them didn’t feel like a work trip. It was really more like a fun trip that we do with our close friends! There were 4 of us, Amy, Kevin and Amy’s best friend, Shae who joined the trip as well. It’s weird that I instantly felt connected to them like I’ve known them for a long time. Maybe because they came from Australia so I felt more relatable, or maybe because we share the same types of jokes like what I usually do with my wife, I am not sure! They are super easy going, super fun & hilarious people to be around with. I wished my wife had come with me there because I know we would all get along very well together.

Our base is in Queenstown, we shared a lovely airbnb home together. We explored gorgeous places in our list by doing road trips everyday. But of course the highlight was when we hiked to Roy’s Peak in Wanaka. It took us around 5,5 hours return hike and it was so worth the effort. The view at the top was nothing like we’ve seen before, truly magnificent! We were blessed by the beautiful weather most of the time, but there was once when it was stormy and raining, and I was quite bummed because I couldn’t do the shoot I wanted. Funny thing that Amy was the one comforting me instead of the other way around, haha. The rest of the shoot was very enjoyable and relaxing. I guess it’s really true; it’s not where you go but who you travel with that really matters.

Fern forest, checked. Winery, checked. City stroll, checked. Lighthouse, beach cliffs, sand dunes, checked. Prewedding of Maggie and Michael is the epitome of what Melbourne is all about.

Maggie and Michael flew from Hongkong to Melbourne for a 2-day prewedding shoot with us. This was the first visit for them, therefore we wanted to go the extra mile to show things in and around our most beloved city so they can have a great wholesome experience. Since the planning stage we were already so thankful for Maggie and Michael who were being so open to our ideas, especially for the ‘newlywed couple stroll in the city’ concept. It was a nice feeling when your couple were appreciative and as excited as we were when doing the shoot.

The most memorable moment was when we reached the sand dunes after a long drive and a lot of walking. All of us were so hyped when our toes touched the soft white sands. We hopped here and there, running around like kids, losing the track of time. After that, we were literally chasing the sunset driving to Squeaky Beach, which also marked the end of our 2-day shoot.

“A Pine Forest Fete in Mount Pancar”

Nothing can bring you a better mood than a good ol’ intimate forest wedding, like seriously. Especially a humble one like the wedding of Arthur & Selvia at Gunung Pancar Bogor. Everything about it just looked and felt so good. The moment we stepped into the forest, the fresh air welcomed us, stripping off whatever the stress we had away. The sound of chirping birds and rustling pine trees alongside with music from a band, playing beautifully as the background of people’s chatter and laughter during the cocktail hour.

As it was getting darker, the warm lights illuminated and elevated the whole dreamy ambience. The presence of food trucks stole some attention and it showed how much Selvia & Arthur wanted their wedding to be really casual and fun. The genuine smiles and merriment from all of us filled up the place. It’s all about having a good time after all. For the fairytale ending, we all lit up some sparklers accompanying the wedding couple’s first dance. After that, the music got louder, drinks got stronger, the party got harder as the night deepen. The rainfall afterwards officially ending the night telling us to rest with cheerful hearts.
