FIRE, WOOD & EARTH

De Laet Family

October 12, 2016

Doing family sessions is such a stress reliever for me. There’s never a dull moment when I see the laughter of kids playing around, with that spark of genuine happiness in their little eyes. Or the smiles of the parents watching their children being amazed and amused by the little things that they see in the outside world.

Like that afternoon when I photographed Jennamia having fun at the beach. For some reason I couldn’t remember, it was her first time playing in the sea water. She hesitated for a bit before her little feet lightly kissed the sea foam in front of her. A moment later, she would drag her mom and dad to run with her, before she dipped herself in the water later on. Nonstop laughter filled the hour. Her ear-to-ear smiles showed how much she loved it. It’s as if she’d been waiting for that day to come.

A sudden thought hit me that moment, maybe I love doing family sessions not only because the smiles I get to see.. But also because I’m always left with something to learn from the children during that short 1 hour. Just like that day, I learned that how we as adults should be more like kids. How we should let our curiosity beats our fear. How we should see the best of every small thing in life. And how we should express our feelings freely without holding back.

Perth 2014

May 8, 2016

We did a bit travelling to Australia. We started from visiting Melbourne, and then Perth. It was in March 2014.
This is Perth.
An old city that captured our hearts. Where people are a little friendlier.
The slow and peaceful life there really made us felt content.
We are thankful to our friend who showed us around and about Perth city. Took us to many beautiful places although we only spent few days there.
In places like these, we felt like our lives have been renewed.
We suddenly felt alive again and we fell in love a little more again to each other.
Looking at these photos we took helps us relive the enjoyable and refreshing trip.

Melbourne 2014

May 6, 2016

Here comes the part TWO.
This part highlights our Great Ocean Road trip and the amazing Twelve Apostles.
Our Great Ocean Road trip includes the short visit to one of the pretty beach towns in Victoria, that is Torquay.
Everytime we visit a beach town, my wife and I would automatically start to picture our future. Imagining ourselves living peacefully in that kind of neighborhood.
It is our dream. And looking at these photos reminds us not to stop pursuing that dream, and looking for a place we can call home one day.

Can’t wait to be back to Victoria in a few months!

Melbourne 2014

May 6, 2016

There’s one thing I love about looking through past travel photos, is that it brings back only the good memories and leaves the bad ones unnoticed.
These are from Melbourne, our home at heart. 2 years passed from our last visit to that amazing place, but the memories and feelings are still fresh.
This part ONE summarized the things we loved to see and to do in and around Melbourne.

To be continued…

Shierly + Guido

“A Wondrous Engagement Session in China”

Photographer: Andre

// This prewedding session was also FEATURED on The Bridestory Blog. Click here to see the featured post. //

“We are thinking.. China”, said Guido with a smile when I asked them where would they like to do their pre-wedding/engagement photoshoot.
The first time we introduced our Travel Diary session to Guido and Shierly, they accepted the idea right away. “A laidback photo session is what we need”, they said.
“…It’ll take probably around 9 days. Let’s explore Beijing and Shanghai.”
We couldn’t believe what we heard, we didn’t expect our first Travel Diary session would be 9 days long. But the thought of doing it with these two quickly made us excited.

Shierly used to study in Beijing and Shanghai, Guido used to visit her and spent time with her on holidays.
The trip for them was like walking down the memory lane. They brought us to places where they shared their beautiful memories together.

From strolling around the hip art district to the grand Summer Palace, until The Great Wall of China in Beijing.. From the tranquil Yu Garden until the modern waterfront of The Bund in Shanghai.
We lost count of how many places they brought us to.
And every place left us in awe.
We got to make new memories and experiences with them along the journey, it was like we read their history and became a part of their story.
We couldn’t forget how terrifying yet fun it was riding the open cable car above the wilderness at The Great Wall.
Or when they got their portrait caricature painting for a souvenir to bring home.
There are too many memories to count, and too many photos to share.
So we are sharing here only some parts of the whole trip.
It was simply our first, longest and grandest Travel Diary session we’ve ever done.
And hopefully a memorable one for them.

Nicky + Hootan

June 29, 2015

Nicky and Hootan had been married for 1 year long when they came to Bali. In fact, Nicky booked a post-wedding session with me to celebrate their 1st wedding anniversary and the long postponed honeymoon.
I didn’t know them before, but Nicky told me that she found me through my wife’s Instagram. So I thought it was appropriate to also introduce my wife to this gorgeous couple, and I did.
Four of us chatted and shared stories about each other. Hootan and Nicky talked about how they met, how they got married and about their life.
Nicky grew up in Australia, and then she moved to London. She was introduced to Hootan through a friend and after rather a short time, they fell in love, got married and became inseparable since.
And now they are living their fairytale in Dubai.

It never bores me to listen to other people love stories, in fact they are the biggest inspirations for me..not only for doing my job, but for living my life.
During the photo sessions, I was absorbed in the loving vibe they radiate to each other. So calming. If I were to describe the kind of love that I saw between them, the word would be elegant.
For me, the most beautiful people (and also my favorite) are those whose presence can make you feel so comfortable around them…and these two are that kind of people.

Although we only spent few hours together, but it was worth remembering. My wife and I wish only the best for you both, wherever you might be.
